Charming Spring Wreath

So, I have been seeing wreaths, center pieces, and many other decor items with the use of large lettering wrapped in yarn, scrapbook paper, etc... And some I have seen wrapped in moss, which I have fallen in love with! So springy!! So, after many months of contemplating what I wanted to make and after looking at some inspiring pictures I decided to make a wreath with the letter R on it, which is the first letter of our last name Ritz. :) This wreath was super easy and fun. Below is how I put it together.

First I wrapped my grapevine wreath in burlap.

Then I bought a wooden R and wrapped it in moss.

I bought moss with a sticky back for easy placement on R.

I traced around the R on the back side of the moss. I made it a little bit larger so that I could fold it over the edge of the R and you wouldn't see any of the wood.

I found these cute flowers that I wanted to hot glue to my R.

So CUTE!!

I hot glued my R to the wreath and stuck some spring flowers behind the R.

I loved the way it turned out! Isn't it charming!?!? :)

Spring Redone

Every time I buy/use a glass container, and I have used all of it's contents, I hate to throw it away or just throw it in the recycle bin. I think to myself...  there is something cute I can make with this so I am going to save it. ;)  So...on the bottom of my pantry floor in the back I have spaghetti, pickle, olive, marinades, the list goes on and on JARS!!!

Last week I was at a department store and they were selling a glass jar with a flower in it for $10 a piece. They were so cute and I grabbed three of them, trying to ignore the individual price, when it came to me! What am I doing with these when I have a gazillion of them at home and could buy my own flowers and make my own!?!?

So, I ran to Michael's because they are having 50% off their flowers and bought three different types. Came home grabbed three jars, stuck a little bit of moss in the bottom, put the flowers in, and I now have a cute new spring decor display in our dining room. I love it!!

I added burlap and a flower to this alfredo jar.

This jar was a bacon bits jar that I covered in Jute. I just love it!!

I'd love to see what others have done with left over jars so I can make something else for our house. :)  Have a good day!

Spring Front Door Basket

I've had the same wreath on my front door ALL winter and I wanted something fresh & new, and I wanted tulips. So yesterday I headed off to Michael's craft store and found that all their Ashland flowers were 50% off!! YEA!! For me! :)
I already had the container that I had bought at a Southern Living party a few years ago. So, I took that with me and tried different colored tulips until I found that I had the perfect color and number for the basket. I'm also glad that I took the basket into the store because I realized that the flowers were too short and needed something inside to give them a lift over the basket. So I also bought some green Styrofoam to put in the bottom of the basket.
I love the way the arrangement turned out. :) So pretty!

Making Cascarones

What a fun Easter tradition! Breaking a hollow decorated egg filled with confetti on someone's head!! Can you hear my sarcasm?? :)I actually don't like this tradition to much because its me that always ends up with confetti filled hair, but because my kids love it I sort of love it too. :)
I decided this year my boys were old enough to help me make some. I knew that I was in for a mess but we dove right in. My almost 4 yr old had a friend over to help us. So, if you can image a 4,3, & 2 yr old's making cascarones!?!?! It was a blast! Plus I had the help of my sweet friend Sandi. They did a great job.

You need:

• Hollowed out eggs 
• Food coloring 
• Vinegar 
• Boiling water 
• confetti 
• Tissue paper 

Directions:

To hollow out an egg I cup the egg in my hand and tap the end gently with a spoon. It makes a circular hole in the egg. You then can use the spoon to dig out the cracked egg.

Next, die your eggs with food coloring. You will need a teaspoon of vinegar per 1/2 cup of boiling water and 20 drops of the color you desire your eggs to be.

Fill your colored eggs with confetti. Glue a square of tissue paper over the hole.

Easter Treats

These Easter treats are so much fun to make for little ones. Eating goldfish are so much fun to eat when in packaging shaped like a carrot. :) I am providing snack for both of my boys mother's day out classes tomorrow and figured since Easter is Sunday that I would make these "carrots". :)

Here is what you need to make this snack:

• Goldfish
• Cone shaped Celobags
• Green Raffia

To put the "carrot" together pour as many goldfish as you like into the cone shaped bag. Tie off with the green raffia and your done! :) I trimmed the extra bag off my carrots to make them look a little neater. I also didn't put a lot of goldfish in a bag because they are for 2 and 3 yr olds.

Spring Cleaning

OK, I am going to be totally transparent and tell you that my house is FILTHY!!! I can't take it anymore! I think I actually saw dust size tumble weeds rolling across my floor yesterday. :)

Every year about this time I get the urge to open up my house and let the wonderful spring air fill it and clean clean clean!! From top to bottom I want everything clean and organized. After brain storming what I need to clean and reading the blog www.thehappierhomemaker.com I typed up my own checklist of what I need to clean throughout my house.

Like Melissa, from the happierhomemaker, there is NO way I could ever get this done in a day or weekend. I have four kids and a husband that would interrupt me too many times to ever complete this in a timely manner. So, my goal is to do one section a day or a section a weekend until it is done. I can't wait to get started!
