All opinions are 100% mine.
What is your perfect way to start your morning? For me it is drinking a hot cup of coffee and having a nutritous breakfast. I can't go very far into my day without eating that first meal. :) If I don't, I end up very grumpy and tired. I am a busy mom of two little boys that don't let me sit for very long through out the day so I find myself needing more and more energy just to keep up with those two!!
This last week I was introduced to Honey Bunches of Oats Morning Energy breakfast cereal. It comes in two awesome flavors that are both my favorites. Chocolatey Almond Crunch & Cinnamon Crunch! ;) Who doesn't want chocolate morsals and almonds in their cereal?!?! These new cereals are packed with whole grains, protein, and the fiber that you need to give you energy to help you get going in the morning.

Did you know that nutritionists recommend eating three or more servings of whole grain foods a day? I am always worrying that my boys are getting all the nutrition that they need through out their day. Each serving of these cereals offers 2/3 of your day's whole grain. My boys really enjoyed snacking on the crunchy cinnamon clusters. My youngest son said he was going to get strong like Spiderman!! I love that kid!!
I was asked to share my favorite of the two cereals and I actually really enjoyed both of them. The cereals don't sacrifice on taste to deliver a nutritious and wholesome breakfast to help me jump-start my day and help to keep me satisfied. My whole family enjoyed this wholesome breakfast!

There is a real art to making bread. I believe that you can follow a bread recipe to a T but if you don't know the way the dough is supposed to look and feel like it can turn out a total flop! Which is frustrating for someone that likes to follow recipes to a T... cough cough. :) My dad is a wonderful bread maker and I have learned a lot from him. I still will call him to ask him baking questions all the time. We share our love of baking and eating anything with a ton of carbs! ;) Shame on us!!

I'm starting to learn and get used to the dough in my hands and how it should feel. I love kneading dough and making something so glorious from scratch. It's very rewarding for me. Plus it's really good to eat!

This bread is great on it's own, warm, with a little bit of butter. Or it's even better drizzled with cream cheese icing. I went with the cream cheese icing if you can't tell.

Ingredients:
4 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 package active dry yeast
1 1/3 cups milk
3 Tablespoons sugar
3 Tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs

Filling :
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Icing:
2 3oz packages of cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions:
Mix together 2 cups of flour and the yeast and set aside.
Heat the milk, sugar, butter, and salt until it is warm (120-130 degrees) and until the butter melts.
Add the heated milk mixture with the dry mixture along with the eggs.
Beat with an electric mixer on low to medium speed for 20 seconds.
Beat on high speed for 3 minutes.
Using a wooden spoon stir as much of the remaining flour in as you can.
Knead your dough on a flour surface adding as much of the flour as you can to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic. (6-8 minutes total)
Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl.
Cover and let rise in a warm place till double in size, about an hour.
Punch dough down.
Divide the dough in half and cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Grease two 8x4x2 inch loaf pans.
Roll each ball of dough into two 12x7 rectangles on a lightly floured surface.
Brush them lightly with water.
Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.
Sprinkle half of the sugar mixture onto each rectangle.
Roll Up jelly roll style, starting with the short side.
Seal the the seam.
Place seal down in prepared loaf pans.
Cover and let rise in a warm place till nearly doubled in size.
Bake in a 375 oven for 25-30 minutes or till bread sounds hollow when you tap the top.

Icing:
Beat together two 2 3ounce packages cream cheese, softened; 1/2 cup butter, softened; and 2 teaspoons vanilla till light and fluffy.
Gradually add 2 cups of powdered sugar, beating well.
Slowly add in more powdered sugar until you reach your desire of spreading consistency.
It's another cold day here in San Antonio and we are trying to stay warm. Today seems to be another soup day for us. This Tortilla Soup is going to really hit the spot. It's so flavorful and filling. We love the tomato base with the fresh cilantro! You can never have too much cilantro in my opinion! Yummy!! What is your favorite go to soup whenever it is really cold outside?
All you really had to say to convince me to make this cheese ball was bacon & ranch! That's it and I was convinced it would be delicious and it was!! The evening that I made this appetizer we had some friends over and I think my friends husband and I could have eaten the whole thing ourselves. ;) It's addicting for all you ranch lovers like us out there. Definitely should make for your next party. I know I will. There are a lot of different cheese balls out in the recipe world. What is your favorite?

Ingredients:
2 (8 oz each) packages cream cheese (I used the fat free)
1 (1 oz.) packet dry buttermilk ranch dressing mix
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated
4 green onions, thinly sliced
5 pieces of turkey bacon, fried and crumbled
1/4 cup chopped black olives, optional
pecans or almonds, finely chopped for coating

Instructions:
Combine all the above ingredients except for the pecans or almonds.
After the ingredients are combined roll them all into a ball.
Lay out your chopped nuts on a flat surface.
Roll your cheese ball in the nuts until the ball is covered.
I love pasta salads! You almost always can put whatever you want in them and throw on a vinaigrette dressing and your done. It's hard to mess up a pasta salad. Which is one of the main reasons it is always a go to dish when company comes over. ;) This salad is delicious, light, and flavorful. I love the salami & mini pepperoni's along with the mozzarella. So tasty!! It can be a side or a whole meal in itself. What are your favorite ingredients to put in your pasta salad?
In college my roommate was an excellent cook and I learned so much from her. She taught me how to make Spanish rice and I have never wanted instant again. It's so easy to throw together and you won't regret the little extra time it takes. This version of Spanish rice is your starter recipe. In south TX authentic Spanish rice most of the time has carrots, corn, peas, cooked onions, or cilantro. You can pretty much add any veggie that you want and it's Delish!!
Is Spanish rice a common side in your area? If so, how is it made? What all is added to the rice to make it special? I'd love to hear from you. :)

Ingredients:

1 cup rice
1 tsp minced onion
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp cumin
dash of red pepper
1 tablespoon canola oil
dash of chili powder (optional)

Directions:

In a skillet, brown rice in 1 T canola oil. When rice is almost done, add onion, salt, pepper, cumin, red pepper and chili powder if you want. Brown rice until complete. Slowly add your tomato sauce while stirring it into your rice. Add 1 1/2 cups water. Cover until rice is done, about 20 minutes.
Have you seen this printable?? I'm not sure where I saw this last year, but knew I wanted one of my own to put up in the house. So I made this on Photoshop and wanted to share it with you. Just click the above image and print. This would also be super cute to give to a teacher with a little candy attached to it. The size is an 8x10. I hope that you can use it. :)

I made a white bean chili several years ago that my husband I both loved, but when we were craving it the other night I couldn't find the recipe anywhere!! Isn't that frustrating?? So I looked up white bean chili's on All Recipes.com and this one seemed to be the closest to what we remember the chili having in it. It turned out just perfect and hit the spot. What type of chili is your favorite?
Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!?!?! Will you be watching the Superbowl in a couple of weeks? We are getting together with my husbands new boss for the Superbowl and I'm nervous because I don't know them very well yet and want to take something that everyone will like. So far I can't make up my mind which dish to make and it's driving me crazy!! While looking through some of my recipes though I found some of my favorites and put them together to share with you just in case you are wanting to prepare something for that night as well. You really can't go wrong with any these. :) Which dish do you think I should make for a Superbowl party?

I love this saying!! The moment I read this I knew that I wanted to make a print to put into a frame and place on our mantle. I have never had a mantle before so I can't wait to start decorating it with the seasons. Yes, I am that nerdy person that will do this and send you all the pics! ;) This is an 8X10 and I am going to print on card stock. Please feel free to click on the image and print one for yourself. If you do print one I would love to hear where you put it in your home. Hope you are staying warm. :)

Today I'm sharing with you an authentic recipe for Pork Carnitas. These carnitas are TO DIE FOR!! My husband asks me to cook these for him on a weekly basis. Cooking 4-5 pounds of pork makes a lot so I like to use the meat for other dishes as well. You can easily freeze 3-4 cups of the pork and use later for enchiladas, chalupas, pork nachos, or even put some on top of your huevos rancheros. ;)

Ingredients:

4-5 pounds boneless pork shoulder or pork butt, cut into 2-inch cubes, fat left intact

3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lime juice (from about 2 to 3 limes)
4 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons Kosher salt, plus more to taste
For serving: corn tortillas, cheese, Southwestern Slaw or shredded lettuce, and salsa verde
Read more at http://www.bunsinmyoven.com/2013/01/10/authentic-tex-mex-carnitas/#WSKFT7w3741sS7To.99

4-5 pounds of boneless pork shoulder or pork butt cut into 2 inch cubes with fat still intact.
3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lime juice
4 cloves garlic
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons salt, plus more to taste
For serving: corn tortillas, cheese, southwestern slaw, and salsa.

Directions:
Place pork in a heavy bottomed pot. Add the orange juice, lime juice, garlic, ground cumin, and salt. Then add just enough water to cover the top of the pork.
Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to simmer. Simmer uncovered, without stirring, for two hours.
Increase the heat to medium high and stir the meat occasionally. The more that you stir the meat the more that the meat starts to fall apart.
Continue cooking until all the water has evaporated, about 45 minutes, leaving only the pork fat. Let it fry, turning as needed, until the meat is crispy and browned.
Add salt as needed and serve on corn tortillas. Before placing the meat in the tortillas make sure you wrap about 6 in damp paper towels and heat them up in the microwave for about a minute. If you don't do this the tortillas will crack.
I topped our carnitas with a southwestern slaw kit that I found next to the lettuce in the produce section of our grocery store. It came with a cilantro dressing that was really good.

Happy New Year friends! I hope everyone is finding themselves doing well this week and is enjoying the start to this new year. :)

For Christmas this year my husband and I cooked a ham. We had a lot left over so I am trying to be creative with recipes that I can put ham into. ;)
We love potato soup at our house so this year we are having Ham and Potato soup! Delicious and perfect during this cold weather.
Today I am contributing this recipe over at Memories by the Mile. Hop on over there to get this delicious recipe.
Have a great day!!
It's almost 2014!!! As always, this past year has flown by and I wonder where the time has gone. At this time last year though I told my family that I wanted to start blogging about everything I do for our family. Whether it be cooking, crafts, or just my projects.
On January 4th I posted my first post about Loaded Baked Potato Soup. Boy have I learned A LOT about blogging since that first post. When I look back at some of the first pictures I took I cringe and can't believe I actually thought that the pictures looked good! I still have a lot to learn about photography and am currently saving up to buy a better camera to actually do some of my recipes some justice. ;) One thing I know for sure is that I have found something that I love doing. I look forward to writing as often as I can and absolutely love hearing from my readers. Each comment mean so much to me. As I look into this next year I am hopeful to grow even more as a writer, photographer, and organizer. I also hope to connect with more of my readers and form closer relationships with all of you. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read and grow with me. :)

I thought it would be fun to share with you the Top 10 most read posts of 2013. Just in case you missed one of them. :)

Hope you each have a great start to the New Year!!
The chili is a great change from chili made with ground beef. The flavors all blend really well together. Perfect for left over turkey or to make brand new in the slow cooker. Also great during these cold winter months. Happy Holidays everyone!! :)

1 (15-ounce) can white beans, with liquids from beans

1 (15oz) can dark red kidney beans, with liquids from beans

1 (4-ounce) can diced green chilis, with liquids from chilis

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano

Directions

I bought a frozen turkey breast and slow cooked ours for 5 hrs on high. If yours is not frozen I would cut the time in half to 2 1/2 hrs or on low for 5 hrs.
Once your turkey breast is easily shreddable with two forks pull it out of the slow cooker, shred, and put back in.
Add the remaining ingredients to your slow cooker with the shredded turkey. Cook on low for another hour so it will heat thru.
We topped ours with shredded cheese. Delicious!!
My boys loved this spin on a grilled cheese. We ate ours just like you see in the above picture, but these would be delicious dipped in a hot bowl of tomato soup during these cold months. How do you like to eat your grilled cheese? Do you add meat, veggies, or a combination of cheeses? I'd love to hear!

Flattened you bread with a rolling pin so it's easy to roll.
Place a slice of american cheese on the bread and roll it up.
Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat.
Start grilling your rolls in the melted butter with the seam side down to seal.
Grill until the cheese is melted and the bread is slightly toasted.

What a beautiful morning this morning was here in San Antonio! It was cold and the sun was shining brightly through the trees. We are settling nicely into our new home and really enjoying being here. I made these rolls this morning and they were delicious. So easy to make as well. Instead of making my own dough I used Pillsbury bread sticks. This step made this a really easy recipe! These would be excellent to make during the holidays for friends and family!

Ingredients:

Pillsbury bread sticks (1 can makes 12)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2-3 Tablespoons orange juice
1 1/2 teaspoons orange zest

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Open your can of bread sticks and divide into 12 equal parts. Pull each of your dough sections to make them long enough to wrap into a bow/knot.
Bake for 13 minutes or until golden.

Directions for icing:

In a small mixing bowl stir together your powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest. Gradually add your orange juice until you like the consistency of the icing. I only used 2 tablespoons because I liked my icing thicker. Brush it onto your warm rolls. Yum!

Enjoy!!

We haven't quite figured out the heat in our new house and I seem to be cold ALL of the time. There is a lot more tile in this house compared to our house in Austin so maybe that's why... I don't know, but I do know that I where slippers all day that I am home because my feet are so cold! Ha! I'm such a wimp though. ;)

Anyway, enough about my cold feet! :) So, the other night when I was cold I wanted a warm dessert. I decided to make this delicious pear crisp and it hit the spot. Notice the picture though, I did have to add me some vanilla ice cream. It's the perfect combination. My taste buds over ruled my cold feet on this one!

Salted Caramel Pear Crisp

6 cups sliced pears {10-11 pears}

1/4 cup lemon juice {juice of 3 lemons}

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

5 tablespoons cold butter

1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place sliced pears in a greased 13×9 baking dish. Pour lemon juice over pears and toss gently.
Mix sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add nuts and combine. Sprinkle crumb
topping over pears.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until browned.

Salted Caramel Glaze:

4 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons brown sugar

3 tablespoons white or raw sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons milk

1-2 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar, sifted

Heat butter, sugars, salt, vanilla and milk over medium heat,
stirring constantly. When mixture reaches a boil, boil for one minute,
stirring constantly. Remove from heat and continue stirring. Add one
tablespoon confectioner’s sugar to thicken.
Drizzle salted caramel over warm pear crisp.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I hope you love it!

Hello Friends! I hope that everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving and is enjoying this beautiful holiday season. My life has been a bit crazy lately. The weekend immediately following Thanksgiving we moved from Austin to San Antonio Tx. It has been an eventful couple of weeks and I apologize for not sending you all things Glorious. ;) My mind has been consumed with the move and I've put cooking and crafting on the back burner. We are finally feeling a bit settle into our new home though so I'm hoping that I will be back in the kitchen this weekend. We are missing our friends and family a lot but will hopefully get to see them often. San Antonio isn't but a couple of hours away.

Today I am sharing with you a simple and delicious apple pastry. My family loves apple, but you could fill it with pumpkin, cherries, pears, peaches.... whatever your little heart desires. ;) To get this recipe head on over to Memories by the Mile where I did a guest post last week.

I hope you enjoy this recipe!
It’s almost Christmas!! Can you believe it?!? Where has the time gone this year? I hope that everyone is doing well and getting most of their Christmas shopping done so that you can relax as it draws closer to Christmas day.
Do you have any holiday traditions with your friends when you exchange Christmas gifts? My best girlfriend and I enjoy meeting at a nice restaurant where we can sit and relax, catch up, eat good food, and exchange presents. This year the restaurant of choice was P.F. Chang’s. Have you been there? It has a unique and modern environment that combines Asian and American cultures through their décor and menu. It serves classic favorites to seasonally inspired food. You can dine on hand crafted dishes, desserts, and cocktails.
This year, because time has gotten away from us and we didn’t have has much time to have a full meal, we decided on meeting for just dessert and coffee. P.F. Chang’s has a new dessert on its menu along with two handcrafted holiday beverages that we really wanted to try. Their new dessert that we tried is this delicious handmade dessert wontons-Chocolate Raspberry and Sweet Vanilla Cheese.
Oh my goodness do these not look delicious!!
We had a difficult time deciding between their two new beverages, the Peppermint Mocha Cappuccino and the Vanilla Bean Milkshake, but because it has been so abnormally cold down here in TX we decided to go with the warm Cappuccino. It was perfect! So delicious!
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of VinoVinti for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love red wine! Do you? I enjoy having a glass in the evenings to unwind, to sip while I read, or to sit with my husband and catch up on our day. My husband and I went to Italy on our honeymoon and had wine with every meal (except breakfast of course). J I Love Italian wine!! Red wine paired with prosciutto, cheese, & olives….oh my mouth is watering!! I can just taste it! I hope we get to go back. I’ve also had the opportunity to go to California with my husband on a couple of business trips. After his conferences were over we snuck away to Sonoma Valley and had the best time!! Californian wines are delicious as well! Plus the scenery of the vineyards there aren’t too shabby to look at either. Beautiful part of the U.S. for sure. It reminded us a lot of Italy. Very similar to Tuscany.
Well, I recently learned about a new innovative device called the VinoVinti. I wanted to share it with you today in case any of you enjoy wine like we do. I also think that this is going to be a perfect gift for my husband and my brother this Christmas. It is also very simple to purchase, which I love! You can do it all from the comfort of your home and don't have to fight all of this crazy holiday traffic. Just click on this link VinoVinti and by clicking on the store button you can puchase as many as you like. Hopefully after learning about it you will want to place one under the tree for your special someone like I am.
The VinoVinti is a device that removes excess carbon dioxide from the wine, is faster than decanting and even more effective than aeration. It uses a specially engineered ceramic rod and vacuum pump to create a bubble to escape the wine. When it does this it enriches the flavor, removes the “acidic bite”, and improves the way it feels in your mouth. It’s super easy to use and can be done in all of 20-30 seconds.
Be sure to watch this 2 minute video to learn more about the VinoVinti.
It is SO cold in TX right now which is not how it usually is this time of year. It's in the thirties and rainy!! We love it though because it makes it seem more like fall than if it were in the 80s. This last weekend I made us a large pot of this Taco Soup to help warm us up. It is very tasty!! We served ours with guacamole & salsa and tortilla chips. Hope everyone is staying warm this week and travels safely.

Ingredients:

Large package of hamburger 2 lbs
Large onion chopped
2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans corn, drained
1 can tomatoes with green chili's
1 can diced tomatoes
1 15oz can tomato sauce
1 can beef broth
2 packages taco seasoning
2-3 cups of water

Directions:
Brown
the meat and onion together. Add in all the other ingredients and cook
until it's hot. I like to put mine in the crock pot and let it cook on
low for 4 to 6 hours.
Serve with cheddar cheese and tortilla chips.
